Alexandria House
The Hancock Park Garden Club approved making a grant to Alexandria House to support their community garden. The grant will be used to pay for two additional custom made garden boxes, tools, and compost bins. Members of our club will be available to offer advice and assistance with the project and look forward to being actively involved. The garden includes a solar powered community fridge which will store fruits, herbs, and vegetables grown in the garden that will be made available to the community. This is in addition to creating a lovely space to be shared. Alexandria House was founded in 1996 and located in the mid-Wilshire area. It is a transitional residence and house of hospitality providing safe and supportive housing for women and children in the process of moving from emergency shelter to economic stability and permanent housing. Alexandria House's community garden brings together people from diverse backgrounds to work toward a common goal and creates a place to learn and share. Alexandria House leaders believe the garden project has the power to advance social transformation, teach useful skills, and create opportunities to grow community engagement.
