Salvias Reign at Flowers by the Sea
Thanks to Judy Kirshner and Helen Hartung, Horticulture Chairs, who brought the club a virtual meeting with Kermit Carter, owner of Flowers by the Sea, an online nursery that specializes in propagating and selling salvias from all over the world.
Carter was well-versed in his speciality - the genus salvia - and the Flowers by the Sea website is a visual feast. The salvias are offered online only, and are shipped to your residence for a nominal fee. One can choose a salvia by water needs, color, height and width, blooming season, sun exposure, and origin. In his talk with over a dozen members of the HPGC, Carter featured salvias on the 'smaller size' (since they can grow to substantial sizes) as well as pollinator attractors. We've recorded the talk but can't host it online on our website. If you'd like a copy of the video emailed to you to watch at your leisure, please contact Michaela Burschinger before March 25.
