ECO-FRIENDLY HOLIDAYS

Let’s celebrate the holidays and be thoughtful of our environment. There are so many wonderful ways to create a beautiful ambiance in harmony with mother nature.

Cinnamon Candles

Supplies needed:

Three 6” soy or beeswax candles

1-2 pounds of cinnamon sticks

Three repurposed ribbons

Three sturdy rubber bands

Cinnamon essential oil

Metal or ceramic tray or platter

Nuts, dried seed pods, dried leaves and berries or anything decorative you would like to place on the bottom of the tray surrounding the candles

First, place a rubber band around the center of each candle. Then, place cinnamon sticks, one at a time, inside the rubber band until the sticks completely surround each candle. Carefully put a few drops of cinnamon oil on the bottom of the cinnamon sticks to enhance the cinnamon scent. Tie ribbons into bows over the rubber bands. Place the candles on the tray and fill the bottom of the tray with your choice of decorations.

Repurposed Holiday Gift Wrapping Paper

Brown paper bags make a beautiful earth-toned wrapping paper. Newspaper pages are a fun way to wrap packages and create decorations such as flowers. Old maps and magazine pages can also be used. Remember to steer clear of shiny foils and glitter products which cannot be recycled.

Holiday Tips

Support small farms by using local organic, sustainable meats and produce.

Purchase real Christmas trees and be sure to recycle them when it is time to discard them. Another option is to opt for a live potted tree that can be planted later.

Choose cards made of recycled paper or e-cards.

Bring your own bags when holiday shopping.

Choose candles made of soy or beeswax which are non-polluting.

When choosing holiday gifts, remember to search for eco-friendly options.

HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON!
