Bugs Be Gone!

This is a great homemade recipe for keeping critters out of your vegetable garden. 1/2 cup cooking vegetable oil such as grape seed oil, canola oil or safflower oil 1 teaspoon Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap 1 tablespoon baking soda Store concentrated mixture in a container. When you are ready to use your Bugs Be Gone, repurpose a 32 Oz sprayer bottle and fill it with water. Add 1 teaspoon of your concentrate mixture to the bottle and spray your veggies. Avoid doing it in the hot sun, so morning or early evening times are best. You cannot store the oil based formula with the water. It must be made fresh for each use. This mixture will tackle a problem with aphids, whitefly, mildew , spider mites and other pests. I time per week as a preventative and 1-2 times per week if there is a problem. You can also keep a separate sprayer bottle with a teaspoon or two of the peppermint soap and add a tablespoon of baking soda to combat mildew. This one you can leave in the bottle. This alternative is also a great preventative to keep unwanted visitors off you plants! It can be used more often than the oil mixture. Every other day if desired. Use the oil mixture if you are currently having an infestation problem.

If you have looper worms, alternate the Bugs-Be-Gone with BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) which is great for organic gardening and readily available. Bacillus Thuringiensis and is a microbe naturally found in soil. It makes proteins that are toxic to immature insects (larvae).
