Photographer Inspires Environmental Action
January meeting speaker Robert Glenn Ketchum shown with Patricia Lombard and Judy Kirshner.
The January meeting welcomed photographer Robert Glenn Ketchum whose stunning landscape photography over 45 years has focused on critical environmental issues and promoted environmental justice. Ketchum shared tales of tromping through remote environments shooting in the Tongass Rain Forest in Alaska, the Hudson River, industrial forestry in Canada and the U.S., and the Wood-Tickchik State Park in Alaska, among others.
UPDATE: Sunday Jan 28, 2018 it was reported that the EPA is withdrawing its plan to suspend environmental protections for mining in the area of Bristol Bay where the large scale gold and copper Pebble Mine was threatened to be built on one of the most pristine watersheds in the world. Ketchum's extensive and gorgeous aerial photography of the area no doubt helped illustrate the importance of protecting Bristol Bay.
