GMOs in our Food: Safe or Not?

There has been much debate over the last 20 years about GMOs - genetically modified organisms - particularly as GMO crops turned up in our food, states began to require GMO labels on products and both sides debate whether the "genetically engineered" industry is good or bad.

HPGC Program: GMOs in Food -Good or Bad?

About The Event

Science writer Nathanael Johnson has spent years researching the pros and cons of genetically modified food to try to get to the bottom of the debte on GMOs: do they hurt the environment? Are they bad for humans to consume? Why is there so much controversy surrounding GMOs?

A family friend to Program Chair Ginger Lincoln, and Senior Staff Writer for Grist.org, Johnson will give a 45 minute overview of the science and debate around GMOs to the Hancock Park Garden Club. This end-of-the-year program nicely rounds out our programming theme this year of food and the environment.  All you need to do is make sure you download  Zoom Client for Meetings on your computer, tablet or phone, and click on the link to attend. You can watch, with or without your own camera on, and weigh in with questions at the end if you have them, all from the comfort of your home. Please join us for this last program of the year!

If you'd like to read up on GMOs beforehand you might explore Johnson's series "Panic-Free GMOs" for Grist.org.

This meeting will be held on Zoom:
